The thousand-year-old custom of Shrove Tuesday has arrived at St. James, via Wittenberg and Olney. On March 4 at 6:00 p.m. local Lutheran clerics, including Pastors Barton, Bombaro, DeBlieck, Eggold, Mueller, and Westfall, will race around St. James Lutheran Church, flipping their pancakes, tossing giant pancakes for distance and height, and attempting to consume a stack of pancakes (washed down with beer). Following the fun, there is the liturgy of burning the palms from Sunday of the Passion 2024 in preparation for Ash Wednesday. These ashes are used for the Rite of the Imposition of Ashes. At the conclusion, Pastor Bombaro will offer a theological architectural tour of the Saint James Sanctuary. Bring your noise-makers, cheer loudly, and get ready for a pancake extravaganza!
Please RSVP and let us know if you are would like to volunteer your help: we need electric griddles, pancake makers, and grill masters (bacon/sausage). Volunteers, please arrive at 5:00 p.m. for setup. Thank you!
