St. James Youth Activities
Looking for some summertime fun? Look no further!
We have some FUN times planned for YOU!
Sunday, July 26 ~ Turkey Run State Park Adventure
This park has so many cool trails! Dress to be outside and on trails. Church is at 10:00 a.m. Bring a change of clothes because what you want to wear to the park you won’t want to wear to church. :) If you are not attending St. James that morning, just come by 11:45 a.m., and meet us in the cafeteria. We will depart as soon as possible (like aroun noon). We will need parent drivers! Sorry teens who drive, you can’t drive. It takes about 70 minutes to get to the state park which is located at 8121 Park Road, Marshall, Indiana. Please bring a sack lunch. When we arrive we will first eat our lunches, look at trails, decide how we are buddying up, talk safety, etc. We will hike from aproximately 1:30-3:30 p.m., then meet up for drinks and snacks. Then hike or swim from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. There is an outdoor pool that charges $3 per person (you can’t use the indoor pool for free unless you are an Inn guest). At 5:30 p.m. we will all meet at the Inn to clean up – you might want to bring extra clothes and shoes, depending on the weather, etc. Then we will eat at the Inn restaurant – figure $20 for your meal. We will more than likely be at the restaurant from 6:00-7:00/7:30 p.m., and then we will drive back to St. James. You can bring your cell phones and call for pick-ups on the way back. Again, we will need parent chaperones and drivers! Please RSVP by email or text to Mrs. Keiser by July 6. Once we know who is going, a permission slip will be sent to you and who is going with whom in whose car decided. You will ned to help pay for the park’s entrance fee of $7 per car, and your driver’s gas by handing your driver a $5 bill. This is going to be a great adventure!
Wednesday, July 29 ~ Euchre for the Jr. High Youth
Do you know how to play Euchre? Have you ever even heard of Euchre? It is the Indiana card game that all ages play. As a Hoosier, it is your right and responsibility to know how to play Euchre. :) We will meet in the Annex after Mass, so like 7:00-7:30 p.m., and we will play until 9:00. We will have pizza and drinks. If you know how to play already, you can play with others who do also, or help others who don’t. If you don’t know how to play, we are going to teach you! It will be fun, and you wlll take this game with you all through life! Please RSVP by July 15 to Mrs. Keiser by email or text if you ARE coming, and YES you may bring a friend who is also of 6th, 7th, or 8th grade age.
Friday, July 31 ~ Miniature Golfing for the Sr. High Youth
Well, let’s try it again. The original date was a rain date from the beginning of the week – let’s hope Juy 31 is a typical dry July day! You may bring a friend. We are going to meet at Hole in One on 311 Meijer Drive (Lafayette) at 6:30 p.m. This is Dutch treat, so bring your $7 (if we have 10 or more) or $8 to pay. It will probably take us from 6:30 to 8:00 to play one round. Then we are going to head to the fast food restaurant of your choice — there is a Dairy Queen nearby — we can go down 26th Street to Chick-fil-A or Pizza Hut or ??? Those attending will make the decision. This will be Dutch treat, so see what your piggy bank can afford. You must RSVP by July 15 if you ARE coming. You can always add a friend up to a day before. First person to RSVP gets their golfing round paid for. First person to RSVP saying they are bringing a date, oh, I mean, a friend, will have the friend paid for. The party ends when the food is eaten and you say goodbye. This is for those who were in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grades this past school year.
Sunday, August 1 ~ Pool Party and Bonfire at the Keisers’ (rain date, Aug. 9)
Come to the Kiesers’ at 8481 E. 550 N. (Otterbein) 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. to swim and play yard games. Be there from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. for a bonfire supper and devotions. Wrap it all up by 8:00/8:30 p.m. (Parents who drive youth out are welcome to stay!) This will be the last youth event with Mr. and Mrs. Keiser as leaders as Mrs. Keiser will no longer be heading up the Board of Youth Ministry. It has been an absolute JOY to share all the fun and laughter that youth group activities bring! We look forward to all of the good times planned for this summer! Hopefully, lots of you can get to lots of the activities!
Hugs All Around!
Read through and remember to RSVP – you can do it now – you don’t have to wait. You can RSVP for everything at once if you know what you want to attend now. Friends can always be added on later. These activities are planned for youth who were in 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades this past school year. If you were in grades 5-8, you are welcome to everything except the mini golf and NYG events which are not for you. If you were in grades 8-12, you can attend everything except the Euchre event and the NYG activitiesthat are not for you. (Yes, 8th grade can go both ways.)
